A WOMAN was taken to hospital and subsequently detained under the Mental Health Act following a car fire on the Isle of Wight in the early hours of this morning (Friday), police have confirmed.
At around 3.45am, two fire crews from Sandown and Shanklin were called to the scene in a car park near Stower Place in Sandown.
They were responding to a report of a car fire and used two breathing apparatus and a pair of hose reel jets to bring it under control.
Minor damage was caused to a property due to its proximity to the fire, which completely destroyed a Toyota.
Police officers were alerted shortly before 4am, following reports a car had been deliberately set on fire.
No one was injured and police spoke with a woman in her 30s at the scene.
She was taken to hospital and subsequently detained under Section 136 of the Mental Health Act.
