THE Cowes-East Cowes floating bridge will be out of action for most of next week.

Between 5am on Monday, September 23, and 5am on Friday, September 27, maintenance planned during this period, will take place, the Isle of Wight Council has said on its website today (Tuesday, September 17).

The works are to enable the replacement of the north and south drive chains across the river, with other ancillary works additionally taking place during this time.

A launch service will be in place for cyclists and pedestrians during the suspended service, running daily from 5am until 10.50pm.

The latest suspension follows a vote by Island councillors earlier this year to replace the Floating Bridge 6, which has been plagued with issues since it came into service in 2017.
