It has been a long and frustrating wait for fans, players, staff and volunteers, but the demolition marks a step forward in the ongoing plans to build a retail park on the site, a scheme which will unlock funding for Newport FC’s new home at The Racecourse roundabout.
The new ground will feature a clubhouse and grandstand overlooking an all-weather, floodlit pitch.
Meanwhile, the retail park will feature a mix of outlets – all household names, which will create a significant number of new jobs.
The fan group, which owns and backs the club, has welcomed the latest development in the saga.
