An Isle of Wight woman has landed herself in court after calling emergency services 17 in two months to make false claims about rape and sexual assault.

Tammi Edwards, of New Road, Brading, attended the Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court on Friday, September 13.

The 39-year-old pleaded guilty to persistent use of public communication network to cause annoyance, inconvenience or anxiety.

Lauren Stone, prosecuting, said Edwards made 17 calls to emergency services, namely police and ambulance, between September and December last year, reporting that she had been sexually assaulted or raped.

Ms Stone told the court that police attended Edwards’ address several times and concluded that the allegations were false.

Police eventually questioned Edwards about the calls, and she admitted that her claims were fabricated.

She later reiterated in a police interview that the offences did not happen, the court heard.

Oscar Vincent, defending, said his client does not know why she makes the calls and has no idea what impact it has on others.

Mr Vincent noted that police conducted an interview under caution with Edwards in February, and a police mental health liaison officer was present.

Magistrates ordered a pre-sentence report. Edwards will be sentenced on November 29.
