AN ITINERANT Isle of Wight man convicted of knife crime, who flouted a probation order by not attending unpaid work sessions and appointments, was warned he would be jailed if he failed to comply again.

Shaun Daly, formerly of Fort Street, Sandown, admitted two charges of failing to comply with the requirements of a community order, made by the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court on May 10.

Daly admitted flouting the order by failing to report as directed to unpaid work induction on June 1 and 29; also by failing to report as directed to Probation Service office appointments on May 29 and June 27.

The 39-year-old was made subject to an 18-month probation order, which included him having to complete 80 hours' unpaid work, for possession of a bladed article in public.

Probation told the bench Daly had been evicted and is now living in a tent.

He has failed to do any of the unpaid work.

For Daly, Michael McGoldrick said his client's lack of engagement is linked to his homelessness and significant mental health issues.

Magistrates fined Daly £50, allowing his order to continue, but warned him if he failed to comply again, he would be imprisoned.
