Simon Howes, who made headlines last year for his incredible solo row across the Atlantic Ocean, is set to be a guest speaker at this year’s Isle of Wight Literary Festival.

On Friday, October 4, Simon will take to the stage to discuss his remarkable adventure and his newly released book, Atlantic Rower, which is already flying off the shelves.

Simon, a retired stockbroker from Fishbourne, embarked on his transatlantic journey in 2023 at the age of 67, rowing over 5,300km from Europe to St Lucia, entirely unassisted.

He became the second oldest person in the world to complete this incredible achievement.

During the gruelling expedition, Simon raised over £100,000 for the Island’s Red Squirrel Trust, a charity close to his heart.

In Atlantic Rower, Simon explores his incredible adventure, recounting both the highs and the many challenges he faced on the open sea.

With no prior rowing experience, his story is a testament to grit, determination and a great sense of humour.

Tickets for Simon’s talk can be booked via the Isle of Wight Literary Festival’s website.

For those who cannot attend the festival, Simon’s book Atlantic Rower is available for purchase on Amazon.

Simon’s appearance at the IW Literary Festival will feature an interview with ITV producer Steve Ancsell.

He will reflect on his journey, the inspiration behind it and how his impulsive purchase of a 25-foot ocean rowing boat led to him to fulfil his dream.

Proceeds from some of Simon’s book sales will continue to support the Red Squirrel Trust, which recently purchased 12 acres of Island woodland.
