AN ISLE of Wight drug driver caught over the limit for cannabis after police noticed defects to his car has been banned from the road.

Haydn Parker, of Denny Gardens, Shanklin, appeared before Isle of Wight magistrates on Tuesday, September 10.

The 20-year-old admitted drug driving on Merstone Lane on March 12.

Prosecutor, Lauren Stone, said police were on duty and travelling along Merstone Lane at around 11pm.

She said they were alerted to a green Ford Fiesta with broken brake lights, and when they stopped the vehicle, its driver – Parker – confessed to using cannabis regularly.

He tested positive for the substance, registering a reading of 2.9 when the specified limit is 2.

A small quantity of cannabis was also found in his vehicle.

Parker, representing himself, apologised to magistrates, confessing he made a mistake and shouldn’t have driven.

He said it was ‘spur of the moment’ and he got into the car to drop off his sister.

Parker, who had no previous convictions and held a clean driving licence, was disqualified from driving for 12 months.

He was fined £300 and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £120 surcharge.
