AN ISLE of Wight woman who stole wine and meat from Tesco and the Co-operative was spared a further extension to her jail term.

Nina Hoskins, currently at HMP Bronzefield, appeared before Isle of Wight magistrates on Tuesday, September 10.

At a previous hearing, the 39-year-old admitted four counts of theft, in Ryde and East Cowes, between April 20 and 28 of this year.

Prosecutor, Lauren Stone, said Hoskins stole goods from Tesco Extra and the Co-operative on four separate occasions.

She stole wine to a combined value of £61.50 from Tesco, and meat to a combined value of £163 from The Co-op.

The court heard Hoskins was already serving an 18-month prison term for ABH and criminal damage, and had 13 previous convictions for 32 offences.

Oscar Vincent, defending, said Hoskins was jailed on September 4 and it was a shame these offences had not been dealt with prior to that conviction.

He said she stole the goods during a period of homelessness when she had not been receiving benefits and stole out of necessity and alcohol dependency.

Hoskins was handed a further four-month prison term, to run concurrently with her active jail sentence, and must pay a £154 surcharge.
