A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following a sudden death of a woman in her 70s.

Police were called at 9.42am on Monday, September 9.

Officers are making enquiries at an address in Glendale Close, Wootton, in connection with the woman's death.

In a statement, a Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesperson said: "The woman’s family have been informed and are being supported by police.

"We continue to keep an open mind as to the circumstances surrounding the death, and as part of our ongoing enquiries police arrested a 76-year-old man at the address on suspicion of murder.

"He remains in custody at this time."
