AS EVER, thousands of car enthusiasts descended on the Isle of Wight for the Isle of Wight Classic Motor Show over the weekend.

The two-day event, in its 23rd year and held at Newport Quay on Saturday (September 7) and at Ryde seafront yesterday (September 8), featured around 600 classic vehicles — cars, bikes, lorries and buses, worth millions of pounds.

It was as well Newport wasn't hosting the event yesterday, with the quay flooded, which led to Quay Arts and other premises shutting.

Many of the vehicles at the free, family event, were transported from the mainland. They ranged from Jaguars and Aston Martins to Mustangs and Fords.

On-site, live music, bouncy castles and refreshments featured, as was the tradition, when the event was formerly known as the International Classic Car Extravaganza.

The appalling weather in Ryde did not deter the Vectis Corps of Drums from performing.

Charity was at the heart of this year's event, with Wessex Cancer Support and Medina Marching Band benefiting on Saturday, while the Vectis Corps of Drums and Aspire benefited on Sunday. Newport Carnival benefited from both days of the event.

Both bands were collecting for charity.
