A PONY was killed in a "one in a million" lightning strike — witnessed by restaurant diners — at a popular riding centre on the Isle of Wight.
The pony, named GG, took a freak direct hit at the Island Riding Centre, in Staplers Road, Newport, during this morning's (Sunday, September 8) stormy weather.
Diners at the GG's Bar and Restaurant watched in horror as the pony was struck.

"We are devastated to announce the loss of GG today," said a spokesperson for the centre.
"One of our most popular ponies, she was tragically hit by a one-in-a-million direct lightning strike this morning in the sudden storm.
"Thank you for the support of all of the restaurant diners, who sadly witnessed the tragedy happen, and the riding centre staff who, despite their immediate response, were unable to save her.
"She will be terribly missed by us all."
