A MAN from Scotland accused of raping and attempting to throttle a woman in the West Wight more than a year ago, will return to the Isle of Wight to face a judge next month.

Stephen Rennie, of Cypress Place, Inverness, faced charges of raping a woman aged 16 or over, assaulting a female by penetration, and intentional strangulation, in Freshwater on June 24 last year.

No pleas were taken when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, September 3.

Magistrates bailed the 27-year-old to reappear for a plea and trial preparation hearing, at the Isle of Wight Crown Court, on October 15.
