A WAITRESS who "saw red" and pushed a police officer making the drink-drive arrest of her boyfriend near Asda supermarket, appeared at an Isle of Wight court.

Izanna Brizelden-Blundell, of Carter Street, Sandown, admitted obstructing a police officer in the execution of his duty, in Newport, on June 19, when she appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court today (Tuesday, September 3).

The offence happened after police pulled over a male driving a vehicle in Newport that day.

Brizelden-Blundell was the passenger and the driver was her boyfriend.

When the man was told to step out of his vehicle for a roadside breath test, Brizelden-Blundell forced herself between him and the police officer, causing him to step back, and she was subsequently arrested with him, said Lauren Stone, prosecuting.

At Newport Police Station, Brizelden-Blundell apologised for her actions, explaining that when she saw her partner being arrested, she "got carried away".

The offence occurred while she was a youth. She is now aged 18.

A conditional warning was not considered by the police because of her previous convictions, which included inflicting actual bodily harm and other assaults.

For Brizelden-Blundell, Michael McGoldrick said his client was initially "jovial and friendly" with the officer, but then "saw red".

Magistrates fined her £80, with £85 costs and a £32 surcharge.
