The Bermondsey Murder - Angela Buckley

Associate lecturer at Oxford Brookes University and IW resident Dr Angela Buckley is back with a gristly exploration of the crime that became Scotland Yard's first great challenge and an inspiration for Charles Dickens.

Patrick O'Connor went missing in 1849, having last been seen in the company of Swiss-born Maria Manning and her husband in Bermondsey.

By the time police officers discovered his remains under the kitchen floor, the couple had fled.

The search for the cold-blooded killers expanded beyond England, and the characters in the case were immortalised by Dickens in Bleak House, published only four years later.

The Bermondsey Murder uses primary source material to delve into the background of the Mannings and offers a full biography of the victim Patrick, and his shady past.

Angela has a PhD in history, with her specialism being on the evolution of Victorian and Edwardian police detective practice.

Island-based author of crime fiction, true crime and historical biography Merion James Trow (M. J. Trow) is back with an alternative analysis of the assassination of John F. Kennedy, from the perspective of a crime writer.

Mr Trow aims to move away from the "lone gunman, single bullet" findings of the Warren Commission, the official report into JFK's assassination, and delve deeper into what the event says about the American psyche.

Mr Trow is keen to highlight the American government's concern with covering their backs, as he aims to bring truth and justice to a story fuelled by conflict and speculation.
