A ‘happily married’ Isle of Wight paedophile pensioner who flouted the terms of his court order for a third time has been spared jail.

Peter Trayner, of Queens Road, Freshwater, appeared before a judge at the Isle of Wight Crown Court on Friday, August 30.

At a previous hearing in June, the 75-year-old admitted failing to comply with the notification requirements of the Sex Offenders' Register.

The court heard he failed to register a new bank card within three days of its receipt, at Newport Police Station.

Prosecutor, Tim Devlin, said it was Trayner’s third breach of the same order, with two previous breaches in 2019 and 2022.

He said on this occasion, Trayner, who was handed a suspended jail term in October 2019 for hoarding more than 700,000 indecent images of children, failed to register a bank card he had since 2023.

Mr Devlin told the court the Isle of Wight pensioner had five previous convictions for nine offences.

Lucy Linington, defending, said Trayner did not change his fundamental bank account and it was a case where he was absent minded, confused, and didn’t take the proactive decision to register his card.

She said he was not in good health, was living with, and happily married to, his wife of more than 50 years, and retired for some years.

Trayner was handed a 12-month community order, to include 15 rehabilitation days, and fined £500.
