Ryde Carnival returned to the seaside and streets of Ryde on Thursday (August 29), with thousands lining up to get a good view.

The procession has been an annual tradition since 1888 despite some fallow years in the first half of the 20th century, making it the oldest carnival in the UK.

This year's carnival saw a range of costumes, glitz and glamour.

The Ryde Royalty float was inspired by fantasy, featuring a large red dragon on top of a castle, flags and elves.

The procession also featured performances from Medina Marching Band, Vectis Corps of Drums and RAW Samba, among other groups.

Prizewinners from Ryde were Jeanna Dyer and Jacob Dyer, dressed up as Spider-Gwen and Miles Morales in "Spidey and his Friend's Day Off".

Olivia Carson took home the first-place cup in the handcart section.

Ukraine Sunflowers also participated, representing the Ukrainian community from Gosport and the Isle of Wight.

Ryde's carnival season will conclude with Ryde Illuminated Carnival, taking place tonight (Saturday).
