A new retail scheme has been encouraging shoppers back onto the high street.

'Retail Therapy', the brainchild of Love Running's Jo Randall of Newport Business Association, will run from August 24 to September 7, and participating retailers will offer a special price, reduction, or service in their Newport business.

The scheme will conclude on Newport Heritage Day, which will see a free festival come to Newport, and a chance to look around Newport Minster.

There is no money or fee involved for businesses, with the scheme interested in bringing footfall to all kinds of Newport shops.

Interested businesses should contact Jo Randall.

Jo said: "Any shop can take part - big or small, chain or independent - so please join me.

"Let's show some love to our Newport visitors."

At Newport Minster on September 7, will be creative activities with artist Trudie Wilson, the IWC Archaeology team and the Finds Liaison Officer will be bringing some items from Newport’s History.

Unity Hall, IW Family History Society and CWGC will be there to help you discover your own historical connections.

The Masonic Club and St John’s Church will be open for guided tours.

64 High Street will be open with an exhibition about the First Newport Scouts and the Museum of Island History will be open for free.

The Classic Car Show will have hundreds of classic vehicles on show on Newport Quay.
