Eco-friendly, sustainable toilets have opened at Compton Beach on the Isle of Wight.
The toilets feature solar panels, a sedum green roof, and the building itself is made from mostly natural and recycled materials.
The block comprises a ‘changing places’ toilet, accessible toilet, and a baby changing facility.
National Trust Isle of Wight has revealed, as part of the Refill HQ revolution, it now has its own refill station attached to the block, along with a defibrillator.
“Given the coastal erosion on the Island’s southwest coastline, the toilet block is a modular design, allowing it to be dismantled and moved if future erosion brings it close to the cliff edge," said a spokesperson for the trust.
“It makes this new block a long-term investment in Compton’s future.
“A huge thank you to our partners, members, and visitors for making this transformation possible.
“We hope to keep these facilities open year-round, but this will depend on everyone’s respect for the site.
“Let’s keep it beautiful together.
“A generous donation and multiple Gifts in Wills left by generous supporters of the Isle of Wight have enabled this major transformation.
“We’d like to express our gratitude to all who contributed and made it possible to improve and preserve this cherished place for memories yet to be made.”
