An inquest into the death of a scooterist, who died in a crash during the Isle of Wight Scooter Rally two years ago, is being heard tomorrow — a day before the event returns for 2024.

Mattias Klabis, from Hamburg in Germany, was killed following a collision on Newport Road, Apse Heath on August 25, 2022.

The crash occurred near the Isle of Wight Scooter Rally base at Sandown Airport.

After the incident, police appealed for witnesses and a woman was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Police have since confirmed no further action is being taken against the woman, following the conclusion of an investigation.

In the aftermath, fundraisers were set up to help the 51-year-old's wife and two sons.

One of them, which closed on September 18, 2022, raised nearly £12,000.

Now, almost two years to the day, an inquest is due to be heard into his death.

It is listed for 11am on Thursday, August 22.
