J. Hooper, Shalfleet:

It's the height of the season and at last some decent weather.

This time of year there are many cyclists enjoying this Island either solo or with a group.

Unfortunately, I've had to give up cycling but do drive, which I'm sure many cyclists also do.

What I can't understand is that there are some riders that insist on dressing head to toe in black, riding black or very dark bikes.

They have no high viz strips on the bike or even wear an armband.

There are many roads that have trees either side that also give a tunnel effect by the tops meeting over the road and this, from the drivers position in a car, makes anyone in dark clothing blend into the background.

Surely if these cyclists do also drive, they must know that even in broad daylight, these stretch of roads are perfect camouflage for cyclists.

These people either have a death wish or think they look 'cool' in their ninja style clothing.

If a driver hits one of these cyclists because they can't be seen until the last minute, it will be the driver that ends up in court or having their insurance increased, let alone any damage caused.

If these people insist of blending into the background, maybe it's about time they should have to pay insurance like other road users.
