Bembridge RNLI Lifeboat Station is opening its doors to the public this weekend, promising an entertaining day out for Isle of Wight families.
Updated: Due to operational and weather-related issues, the event has been cancelled.
From 11am to 4.30pm on Saturday, August 24, the lifeboat station at Lane End will be open for visitors, with opportunities to view inshore and all-weather lifeboats, as well as interactive displays.
During the day, though subject to operational availability, spectators will be able to watch both the Tamar class all-weather lifeboat, and the ‘D’ class inshore lifeboat, launch and carry out a demonstration display with simulated rescue.
Promoting the RNLI’s Respect the Water campaign, the Lifeboat’s coastal safety officer will be present to offer advice, and a lifejacket ‘clinic’ will be available for boat users to have their life jackets inspected and checked for safety.
For a souvenir from the day, the RNLI shop will be open all day and the Lifeboat Guild members will be serving refreshments, including home made cakes.
The open day is entirely free, with all money from donations, RNLI sales and refreshments going directly towards the lifeboats, helping to save lives at sea.
