A stranded yacht with a fouled propeller sparked a callout for the Isle of Wight's Cowes RNLI at the weekend.

The 26-foot yacht, with one man aboard, went aground on the shore between Thorness and Newtown Creek on Sunday, August 17.

The lifeboat, which launched at 8.22pm, discovered the yacht off Burntwood.

The yachtsman had by then already freed the propeller by diving into the water.

Two lifeboat crew members went aboard to help take down the sails.

Escorted by the lifeboat, the yacht proceeded on to a Shalfleet mooring in Newtown Creek.

Members of Needles Coastguard also attended the incident.
