The Red Funnel Isle of Wight ferry service has faced further disruption and cancellations today (Saturday, August 17) with four different reasons provided by the company for the issues.

The vehicle ferry between East Cowes and Southampton has seen considerable disruption throughout today, and that looks set to continue late into this evening.

'Overrunning maintenance'

Earlier this morning, two sailings were cancelled due to 'overrunning maintenance' with Red Eagle.

'Technical issue'

Later, the 4pm from Southampton and 5.30pm from East Cowes were cancelled due to a 'technical issue' with the same ferry's Aft main engine.

'Reached its passenger capacity'

At 6.30pm, Red Funnel advised all foot passengers to use the Red Jet service from Cowes after the vehicle ferry 'reached its passenger capacity'.

In its most recent announcement, the cross-Solent operator has confirmed further delays and cancellations.

The ferry from East Cowes at 8.30pm has been delayed by approximately one hour and a half.

'Operational reasons'

The 10pm sailing from Southampton and 11.30pm crossing from East Cowes have been cancelled due to 'operational reasons'.

The cancellation announcement was accompanied Red Funnel's fourth reason for disruption since 7am.
