Six beach lifeguards from Ryde and Sandown completed an annual cross Solent charity swim on Monday.

The event took place on August 12 when the lifeguards embarked from Gosport at 3.45pm.

With favourable weather conditions, the first swimmers arrived at the Beach Lifeguard Station on Ryde Beach by 5.30pm.

There, they were awarded medals, along with their support team of kayakers and jet ski operators.

The lifeguards took on the challenge to raise funds for their service, operational in Ryde and Sandown, helping to purchase new life-saving equipment and support drowning prevention programs.

Todd Miller, beach manager, said: "We would like to thank all the kayakers, lifeguards and Griffin Marine Services that provided the safety cover for the swim, and I am terribly proud of Fin, Piran, Jack, Harry, Charlie and Kat for completing the swim."

Ryde Beach Lifeguards are not affiliated with the RNLI.
