There are lengthy delays heading through Lake and Sandown on the Isle of Wight today (Wednesday).
Traffic, travelling from Shanklin towards Sandown, is backed up for around a mile, the County Press has been told.
Queues stretch one-way from Sandown Road, to Lake Hill and the Broadway.
One resident said he had never seen the roads like it.
The closure of The Fairway, Lake — a popular cut through for drivers — appears partly to blame.
Carriageway improvement works are to blame.
Reconstruction works started on the week of August 5 and are expected to last for around 15 working days.
In a letter to residents, Island Roads said: "We recognise that these improvement works may cause some inconvenience for residents and businesses, but we hope any disruption will be offset by the long-term improvements we are making.
"We would like to thank you in advance for your assistance in enabling us to complete these works."
