An Isle of Wight care home recently celebrated a significant milestone as one of their own, Beryl, turned 100 years old.
The centenarian was overjoyed to receive a birthday card from the King and Queen, proudly sharing it with her fellow residents at Old Charlton House in Cowes.
Beryl used to live in Southampton and moved to the Island 92 years ago, and later worked in County Hall as a secretary for the clerks department.
Married twice, with no siblings or children, Beryl is often visited by her step-daughters Kate and Sue.
Prior to living at Old Charlton House, Beryl liked to travel and visited New Zealand, South Africa and the USA, enjoying oil painting before her eyesight diminished and is partial to a glass of wine every day!
Beryl marked her special day with a lunch shared with a close friend, followed by a visit from her family, who helped her open her cards and presents.
The Old Charlton House dining room was decorated with party hats, banners and balloons, especially for the celebration.
Chef Lynn delighted everyone with a lemon cake, Beryl’s favourite, while the residents sang “Happy Birthday” to her.
The festivities continued in the afternoon when The Boogie Woogie Sisters entertained the residents, performing some of Beryl’s favourite songs, which she enjoys singing daily.
After the lively sing-along, Beryl and her family savoured a cream tea prepared by Chef Lynn.
Reflecting on the day, Beryl said: “It was such a special day; I wish I could have it all over again.
“I can’t pick out a favourite bit. It was all wonderful.”
