It’s quite disheartening to read about the individuals featured in your article “Isle of Wight drone trial delayed for 1 week over concerns” (CP 07-08-24).

These technologies represent progress and should be given a chance to prove their worth.

After all, they’re only obstructing a trial. A drone corridor could be a game-changer for Island folks.

But, as always, the NIMBYs are trying to put a stop to this positive change.

Could this be a new competitor for the ferry companies? It certainly seems so.

Just picture this - the trial is a success and more drone corridors are established across the northern coast of the Island, with multiple trips happening daily.

People could pick up items from the drone port, or a fleet of eBikes and scooters (which some people are also against) could deliver packages to homes and businesses.

This means jobs, and lots of them.

Same-day deliveries are a norm for millions of people and businesses across Britain, but they’re still a rarity here on the Island.

So why not test this out and tweak it until it benefits everyone?

To the people of Cowes, especially those living near the car park, let’s embrace this trial with open arms.

Your car park will be returned to you at the end, or it might even be sold to the company conducting the trial, bringing a fantastic new business to town and a much-needed boost to the council’s revenue.

Perhaps in the future, deliveries could be made directly to people’s homes and businesses straight from the drone port. Now, wouldn’t that be something to look forward to?
