Up to 10,000 scooterists are expected to descend on Sandown ahead of the annual Isle of Wight International Scooter Rally, which will take place from August 22 to August 26.

From 1980s hitmakers to local musicians, the Isle of Wight County Press has compiled a list of the best live music to catch as part of the celebrations for the world’s biggest scooter rally.

Roddy Radiation, a former guitarist with The Specials, will perform with his band, The Skabilly Rebels, at Rocket Ronnies in Ryde on Friday, August 23.

Roddy is best known for penning hits including Rat Race, Concrete Jungle and Hey, Little Rich Girl.

The support act on the evening will be Isle of Wight punk group, X-Directory.

Rocket Ronnies will host Marquis Drive, Sharp Class, The Small Fakers and The Jam’d.

Sandown Airport, meanwhile, will host live bands and DJs including Mirror in the Bathroom and Tears of a Clown hitmakers, The Beat featuring Ranking Jr.

Among those also performing at the airport are Double Barrel, The Highliners and A Band Called Malice, a tribute to The Jam.

Hosting free live music at Ryde’s Eastern Gardens, Jack Up Events’ Ticket To Ryde will return.

Taking to the stage over the bank holiday weekend will be Steve Love, Bethan John, Scooted and Booted Sound System, Fusion Party Band, It’s Not a Phase Mom!, The Sirens, Emellia, The Geckos and Hashtag.

Elsewhere in Ryde, The Royal Esplanade Hotel will host rhythm and soul DJs from August 23 to August 25.

Additionally, the rock band Weeks will perform in Ryde Pavilion and Island-favourites, Ska'd For Life, will play at Coburgs.

At 1pm on Sunday, August 25, the scooter ride out will begin in Ryde.
