It was a step back in time for Vera Woodhead, 104, when she proudly delivered an Isle of Wight County Press to The Albion Hotel in Freshwater.

For Vera is a former paper delivery girl and vividly remembers delivering the County Press and other newspapers to the hotel several decades ago.

Every time she visits Freshwater Bay she looks at The Albion and reminisces, and had been fascinated to see how the hotel had been transformed by a recent £6 million development.

So her carer at Brighstone Grange, Lesley Mariner, came up with a plan for Vera to pay the hotel a visit, and deliver a paper for old time's sake.

Lori said: "It was wonderful to meet Vera and hear about her days delivering bread and newspapers in Freshwater, and her escapades on her motorbike, and various other stories she recalled.

"I am so pleased she was able to fulfil her dream to deliver a County Press once more, and to visit the hotel to see its refurbishment."

Vera's memories of Freshwater Bay include a big wooden platform the locals used to dive off, the abundance of pink thrift flowers in the bay, and Arch Rock.

Vera was born and brought up in Freshwater, and worked at Orchard Bros among other places.

The County Press was first printed in 1884.
