ISLE of Wight firefighters were called to deal with yet another fire at Sandown’s derelict Ocean Hotel tonight (Friday).

At around 9.30pm, multiple fire crews were called to the scene on the Esplanade.

County Press readers reported seeing smoke issuing from the derelict, resulting in a third callout to the site for Island firefighters in a week.

Crews from Sandown, Shanklin and Ryde dealt with a small fire on the ground floor.

They used two hose reel jets and it was soon brought under control.

Crews stood down at around 10.30pm.

Work is ongoing to resolve 'wider issues' at the arson-hit derelict hotel, police revealed earlier today.

This was after the Isle of Wight seafront building was targeted for the second time in a week.

Police and the fire service believe a blaze on Thursday, on the third floor of the property, was started 'deliberately'.

It was an almost identical story on Monday, August 5, when emergency services were alerted after smoke was seen emanating from the building.
