A woman involved in several community and local history groups has died at the age of 72.
Janet Griffin was born in Aldershot in 1952 and moved to Cowes in the 1960s.
She attended Cowes High School and Carisbrooke Grammar School.
After leaving school, Janet worked in the finance department at Camp Hill Prison and left in 1981 when she started her family.
Janet moved to East Cowes in 1976 when she married her husband, Ralph and together they had three children, Alexandra, Felicity and Lawrence.
When her children were in school, she was a regular in the classrooms listening to students practice reading.
Janet returned to work at the local pre-school, Seashells and even after retiring in 2014, Janet continued at Seashells as a volunteer helper one day a week.
Janet was involved in many community and local history groups including Ventnor and District Local History Society, Ventnor Heritage Centre, East Cowes Ladies Group, Vectis Wombles, Friends of East Cowes, East Cowes Independents Sing About Group, line dancing and she regularly attended the Kingston Cemetery Tidy Up.
Janet had a lifelong interest in family history and has researched her own family tree since she was a girl.
She served on the committee of the Isle of Wight Family History Society for many years.
Janet enjoyed walking around the Island and wombling (picking litter) as she went.
She leaves her husband, three children and eight grandchildren.
