THE streets of Shanklin were awash with colour yesterday afternoon (Wednesday) as the main carnival made its triumphant return, bringing another fine spectacle to residents and visitors alike.

The event was eagerly anticipated this year, perhaps more so than ever, seeing as poor weather put paid to last year’s plans.

The town promised another evening of excitement and enjoyment for the whole family and delivered exactly that.

Amassing at 6.30pm, and getting underway half an hour later, the parade started on Popham Road, near Big Mead Park.

Roads swelled with floats, dancers and music as the parade made its way past the Old Village and along Shanklin High Street, Regent Street, Queens Road and Chine Avenue.

Thousands gathered to watch the main procession.
