A couple who celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary this week are looking forward to being whisked away to Torquay for a holiday with their family.

Island born Don Hunt (son of Muriel and Ron of Newport) and Sybil Bradley (daughter of Nellie and Bill of Calbourne) were married on August 1, 1964, at St Mary's Church, Carisbrooke.

They enjoyed a reception at the church hall and the bride carried red roses sourced from Covent Garden in London.

The couple had met through a blind date arranged by mutual friends two years earlier.

Following the reception they were waved off at Cowes to begin their married life and new employment in Southampton, with Don having secured employment in his newly qualified joinery trade.

Two years later, they returned to the Island to start a family, while Don utilising his joinery skills by working for the council.

They welcomed two girls, Sue and Sharon.

Sybil worked as a nurse at St Mary's Hospital.

The couple have since been blessed with three grandchildren - Georgia, Reece and Becki.

Amongst well wishes received on their 60 years of married life was a congratulatory message from King Charles III and Queen Camilla.
