THE chemists severely damaged after a lorry ploughed into following collisions with two other cars in an Isle of Wight town, is saying business as usual.

Numark Pharmacist, Kemkay Chemist, confirmed it would stay open for business, despite the shop front window being smashed, its security shutter wrecked and structural damage to a brick pillar separating it with a cafe.

The accident, in Avenue Road at around 9.30am this morning (Monday), involved a lorry belonging to Hampshire Freight Services, driven by a man in his 50s.

Two other cars were damaged during the accident — a green Volkswagen and a cherry red Citroen Picasso, both driven by women.

There were no injuries to the drivers or pedestrians and there were no customers in the chemists at the time of the crash.

Avenue road was closed until around 2.30pm this afternoon after an Isle of Wight Council building control surveyor assessed the damage and gave the green light for the lorry to be carefully recovered, after it had embedded itself into the premises.

Although the chemists was shut on Avenue Road, it remained open for business.

The chemists directed all customers directed its customers to the back entrance, accessible from Tennyson Road, adjacent to Avenue Road. 

It is not known at this stage how long the arrangement will continue for.
