Returning to Newport’s Strings Bar and Venue for the second year in a row, The Panama Picnic Orchestra will perform alongside a trombonist who has played on a song with Chaka Khan.

On Thursday, August 15, the band will showcase their blend of classic jazz and dark mambo and will perform songs from their debut album, 100 Years in the Making, which was launched last year.

Magnus Hawker-French, a trombonist from London who has played with jazz giant Dennis Rollins, will be a guest musician on the night.

Magnus played on misti blu 2, a track which Chaka Khan and her sister Taka Boom loaned their vocals to.

Also on stage will be JC and Sol Grimshaw on guitars, Jon Thorne on double bass and Chris Jones, from Plastic Mermaids, on drums.

Speaking about the upcoming concert, JC Grimshaw said: “I am so looking forward to this great opportunity to bring The Panama Picnic Orchestra back to Strings.

“Having both Magnus and Sol together again to re-create our original songs will be an evening to remember.”
