A crash on a main Isle of Wight road is causing considerable traffic delays this morning (Saturday).

The incident, on Briddlesford Road, happened near its junctions with Blacklands Lane and Combley Road at around 11am. 

Among those to be called to the scene was a single fire crew from Newport. 

They were alerted at around 11.15am by the ambulance service and tasked with providing scene safety. 

Firefighters have since stood down and a spokesperson for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue service has confirmed no one was trapped. 

Traffic is building in both directions and motorists should avoid the area for the time being.

A spokesperson for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said the crash involved two vehicles and minor injuries have been reported.
