Two students from British universities have joined Isle of Wight tech company, Yokogawa Marex, for summer internships.

Alvaro Vicente Tarrago, a MEng Electronic and General Engineering student at King's College, London, will research applying AI and machine learning in process plants until mid-September.

The University of Surrey's BSc Computer Science student, Hallam Saunders, will join a team researching the future of Exaquantum, a key Yokogawa Marex product, throughout August.

Yokogawa Marex's divisional director, Wayne Matthews, highlighted the company’s dedication to offering work experience opportunities.

Mr Matthews said: "Yokogawa Marex has a strong commitment to engage with and provide opportunities for students as they embark upon their career in software development through our work experience, internships, apprenticeships, and graduate programs."

Born and raised on the Isle of Wight, Hallam said he sees the value of having this opportunity so near to home.

Alvaro, who calls the Island his home, echoed this sentiment.

He said: "Yokogawa Marex’s open arms to young professionals or students like me is an invaluable chance at gaining an edge in a market as competitive as the one today, while contributing to developing the local industry."
