Island Roads will be using the summer holidays to undertake highway improvement work on several roads that serve local schools.

The schemes are planned to take place throughout August.

The key routes in focus include The Fairway at Lake leading to The Bay Academy, Grove Road in Ventnor for St Catherine’s School students, and Oxford Street in Northwood which ushers in Northwood Primary attendees.

Furthermore, footway enhancements are on cards for Manor Road, Lake, Sunnyhill Close in Lake and Green Lane, Shanklin frequented by Broadlea and Gatten and Lake primary students.

Expectedly, work at the Fairway will stretch over three weeks, Grove Road for one week and Oxford Street for six days.

Letters detailing the work will be sent to affected residents before work begins.

Although roads will be closed for improvement, pedestrian and property access will be maintained as long as safety permits.

An Island Roads spokesperson said: "Though we do try to limit work in the main summer months this is a good time for us to improve roads serving schools as they are obviously less busy during the holidays.

"Clearly it is impossible to undertake any such work without causing some local inconvenience and we would like to thank residents in advance for their understanding and co-operation."
