THE Isle of Wight's summer season of fun continues next week with the ever-popular Shanklin Regatta, which will be held at a new location for 2024.
This year's free event will be held at Hope Beach, at the bottom of Hope Hill, from 10am on Thursday, August 8.
This year's regatta has switched from its traditional spot on Shanklin Esplanade, on what was the entrance to the former Shanklin Pier and surrounding beaches — 500 yards down to the other end of the seafront.
Starting at 10.30am, there will be a traditional programme of beach sports, which includes races, such as the 'egg and spoon', and the tug o' war, which will run until 1pm.
It will be followed by a myriad of other fun events, such as fancy dress for children and adults and Princess and Princes, a new event based loosely on the format of what was previously known as the ‘Beauty Queens’.
Throughout the day, for visitors, there will be a 'market street' for businesses and charities to trade from, and a 'food and drink street', mixed in with an entertainment area, encompassing a stage.
On stage will be a magic show, swashbuckling pirate antics and live music, including a Dua Lipa tribute and Celina Sax.
To round off the day, there will be a grand fireworks display at 9.30pm.
