WightAID, a major benefactor to local charities, has made generous donations in its recent June round, providing eight organisations with a total of £16,584.

On June 20, Northwood House Charitable Trust Company was awarded £8,844, which will be used to purchase a large greenhouse.

The greenhouse will enhance the volunteer experience, allowing larger groups to participate in maintaining the park's grounds.

Sandown and Shanklin Rowing Club received £4,740, which will go towards the replacement of an outboard motor on its safety launch.

The funds were presented by Andrew Nordbruch of Wight Computers, a long-time supporter of WightAID, at IFPL in Shalfleet.

A series of smaller grants under £500 were also awarded.

The recipients included Apollo Youth Theatre for specialist dance lessons for their 45 members (ages seven to 18); Community Spirited Cafe in East Cowes for new banners; Shanklin Football Club for new youth team training bibs; St Helens Primary School for improving its Forest School Nature Garden; and Wight Rock Community Events CIC for stage hire for the Isle of Wight SteamPunk Festival.

Queensgate Foundation Primary School received funds for costumes and props for its Dance Live entry.

Geoff Underwood, founder of WightAID, expressed his gratitude to each charity for their amazing efforts.

To date, WightAID has distributed over £720,000, benefiting more than 240 local charities.

The donations primarily come from local businesses and individuals passionate about the Island.
