Laurence Bridgeland, Brading:

Could we scare tourists off any more?

I live in Brading and work in Newport and am, generally, a very positive person but recently the road situation around Brading has been unbelievable.

Four of the routes from Brading to Newport were closed at the same time leaving us to either travel through St Helens, Bembridge and Yaverland to make our way via Sandown to Newport or to go through Ryde and Wootton!

Both these journeys add at least 40 minutes to my normal journey, use up lots of gel and irritate both locals and tourists.

As you can see from the map of closures, the routes to all of the main East Wight tourist destinations were closed at the same time, just as the school holiday begins and tourists begin to arrive en masse, (if they can afford £280 for the crossing).

I presume someone is responsible for organising road closures so this kind of inconvenience does not take place, but they are obviously in need of some help.
