Ventnor is set to transform into pirate paradise for its inaugural Pirate Festival.

The event, running from August 14 to August 17, 2024, coincides with the much-loved Ventnor Carnival season.

The seaside town promises an assortment of activities for both visitors and locals.

The fun includes a 'Best Dressed Pirate' contest, fireworks on the seafront, a treasure hunt, sea shanties, a tug of war and barrel rolling games.

Live music highlights include performances from Derek Sandy, and a pirate and lollipop limbo contest on the beach.

Pirates are invited to join the main Ventnor Carnival procession on the opening day.

All activities will be centred along Ventnor Esplanade and on the beach on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.

The Spyglass Inn will offer live music and refreshments throughout the event.

The festival, working in tandem with Ventnor Carnival Week, has the backing of Ventnor Town Council and the carnival, in addition to involvement from Blakes Longshoremen and the Longshoremen's Museum.

Neil Gibbs, owner of The Spyglass Inn and one of the festival organisers, said: "We're thrilled to bring this exciting new event to Ventnor.

"It's a fantastic opportunity for the community to come together, have fun and celebrate our coastal heritage."
