A man in his 30s has been arrested following an alleged arson attack at a property on the Isle of Wight last night (Sunday, July 29).
Police were called shortly after midnight with reports of a fire at a house in Sherbourne Avenue in Binstead.
Officers attended and have arrested a 37-year-old man on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.
As previously reported by the County Press, firefighters from Ryde and Newport were sent to the scene, and breathing apparatus and hose reel jets were used to put out the ground-floor blaze.
Two people were treated for smoke inhalation by fire crews before being assessed by paramedics.
This morning, the full extent of the blaze was clear to see, with the charred remains of the house's interior visible from the street outside, fire damage from the front door up to the guttering and scorched bedroom curtains.
A cordon has been put in place, and police have remained on the scene.
A Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesperson said: "The investigation remains ongoing, and we ask that anyone with information about this incident report it to police on 101, quoting 44240321574."
The man remains in custody at this time.
