FIREFIGHTERS from across the Isle of Wight were called to a fire at a derelict hotel in Sandown just after its carnival ended in the town.
The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service was called to attend the Ocean Hotel in High Street, Sandown, just after 9pm this evening (Saturday, July 27).
The incident happened about an hour after Sandown Carnival, watched by thousands in the town, ended.
The High Street was cordoned off as carnival revellers were still leaving Sandown.
Appliances from Sandown, Ryde and Newport were sent to extinguish a small fire in the hotel's ground floor garage, also described as an outbuilding, of the dilapidated hotel.
Fire crews used one hose reel jet to extinguish the fire and used thermal imaging cameras to detect any further hotspots.

The cause of the fire is not known at this stage and there were no injuries reported.
The historic Ocean Hotel was ravaged by fire just over three years ago, which left large sections of it gutted.
It has been a target for vandals ever since.
Firefighters stood down the operation at 9.39pm.
