A HEAT-health yellow alert covering the Isle of Wight has been issued by government's UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) — covering a spell of hot weather forecast for next week.

The national Met Office say temperatures on the Isle of Wight will hit 25C plus on Tuesday (July 30) and Wednesday (July 31).

But the UKHSA issued a heat-health yellow alert, which will run from 9am on Monday (July 29) through until 11pm on Wednesday (July 31).

There is potential for significant impacts across the health and social care sector due to the high temperatures, the UKHSA has warned.

Here's what to watch out for during hot spells of weather

  • An increase in mortality across the population likely, particularly in the 65+ age group, or those with health conditions — but impacts may also be seen in younger age groups.
  • Increased demand for remote healthcare services likely.
  • Internal temperatures in care settings (hospitals and care homes) may exceed recommended threshold for clinical risk assessment.
  • Impact on ability of services to be delivered, due to heat effects on workforce possible and, many indoor environments likely to be overheating, leading to increased risk to vulnerable people living independently in the community, as well as in care settings.
