A revised timetable for car ferry sailings this Saturday (July 27) is a 'last resort' says Isle of Wight ferry operator Wightlink.

The cross-Solent travel provider has announced its vehicle ferry will operate a revised timetable on the opening day of Cowes Week.

The timetable change will affect the Fishbourne to Portsmouth route.

Wightlink confirmed this is due to "the absence of an essential crew member."

All affected customers have been contacted and moved to alternative sailings, the ferry operator added.

A spokesperson from Wightlink said: "We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this action will cause, but we have been unable to source short notice cover for the absent members of staff and so have taken this action as a last resort."
