Award-winning headteacher Joy Ballard has taken a 'step back' from her role as principal at Isle of Wight school Ryde Academy, it has been confirmed.
The County Press has been told Mrs Ballard has been away from the school for around six weeks.
During that time, vice principal, Will Doyle, has been acting head.
A spokesperson for Academy Enterprise Trust (AET), which runs Ryde Academy, said: "Mrs Ballard has been away from work for personal reasons.
"Before the end of term, Mr Doyle had been looking after the day-to-day working of the school, supported by the wider leadership team.
"Karl Sampson, regional education director for the south west was also providing additional leadership support during this time.”
Mrs Ballard's picture has also been removed from the school newsletters, which are sent out to parents weekly.
A spokesperson for the Isle of Wight branch of the National Education Union (NEU) said: "We understand Joy took a step back for personal reasons six weeks ago and wish her all the best."
Mrs Ballard shot to prominence after appearing on TV show, Educating Cardiff. She was appointed head at Ryde Academy in 2015.
The County Press has asked AET whether Mrs Ballard will return but, at the time of press, had not had a response.
