AN ISLE of Wight drink driver who crashed into a bus and a BMW after failing to react quickly enough has been banned from the road.

Taliesin Tallack, of Dennett Road, Bembridge, appeared before Isle of Wight magistrates on Tuesday, July 23.

The 28-year-old admitted drink driving in his hometown, on July 3.

Prosecutor, Liz Miller, said Tallack had been driving a Nissan Micra along Sandown Road at around 6.55pm.

She said he was travelling down a narrow, winding road with limited visibility, at excessive speed.

Ms Miller told the bench Tallack slammed on his breaks when he came across a double decker bus, and a BMW travelling in the opposite direction, skidded along the road and hit both.

Luckily, no one involved in the collision sustained injuries, the court heard.

Tallack registered a breath-alcohol reading of 59 when the legal limit is 35.

Michael McGoldrick, defending, said Tallack was incredibly remorseful and admitted consuming a couple of beers earlier in the day.

He said the carpenter denied going beyond the 30mph speed limit but conceded he didn’t react quickly enough.

Mr McGoldrick said Tallack’s vehicle was a write-off and it had been vital to his job, containing all his tools.

Tallack was fined £700 and disqualified from driving for 16 months.

He was ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £280 surcharge.
