A PENNILESS Isle of Wight man who stole sandwiches and beer because he was "hungry and thirsty", will be sentenced next month.
Terence Perkins, of Barton Road, Newport, admitted shoplifting goods from the Co-op, Sandown, worth £13, on June 30, when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court.
During the evening of that date, jobless Perkins was caught on the store's CCTV stealing two packs of sandwiches and a pack of lager, said Liz Miller, prosecuting.
The police were called and found Perkins a short distance from the Co-op.
Perkins told officers: "Yes, I did it. I ate the sandwiches."
None of the items were recovered.
For Perkins, Michael McGoldrick said: "He was hungry and had no money — and he was clearly thirsty."
Magistrates ordered a report and bailed Perkins to reappear for sentencing at the same venue on August 2.
