An urgent closure of a main route junction on the Isle of Wight is causing traffic chaos this morning (Tuesday).
The four-way crossroad junction at Yarbridge has been closed today, to allow SGN to carry out urgent repairs to a section of the low-pressure gas main.
Due to the location of the leak in the centre of the junction, SGN says it has no safe option, other than to temporarily close the crossroad junction while repairs are carried out.
“This leak is on a different gas pipe to the medium pressure we previously replaced,” said a spokesperson SGN.
“It’s too early to say how long the repairs will take to complete, we’ll be doing all we can to complete the repairs as quickly and as safely as possible.
“We’re sorry for the disruption this closure will cause and thank you for your patience and understanding.”
As a result of the closure, Southern Vectis’ Route 3 bus is having to divert via Bembridge and St Helens.
Motorists should avoid the area if possible.
